Global Covid caseload tops 419.4 mn

The global coronavirus caseload has topped 419.4 million, while the deaths have surged to more than 5.86 million and vaccinations to over 10.30 billion, according to Johns Hopkins University

The global coronavirus caseload has topped 419.4 million, while the deaths have surged to more than 5.86 million and vaccinations to over 10.30 billion, according to Johns Hopkins University.

In its latest update on Friday morning, the University's Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed that the current global caseload and the death toll stood at 419,431,761 and 5,861,258, respectively, while the total number of vaccine doses administered has increased to 10,302,830,465.

The US continues to be the worst-hit country with the world's highest number of cases and deaths at 78,274,553 and 931,504, according to the CSSE.

The second worst hit country in terms of cases is India (42,754,315 infections and 510,413 deaths), followed by Brazil (27,940,119 infections and 642,156 deaths).

The other countries with over 5 million cases are France (22,223,781), the UK (18,628,655), Russia (14,624,423), Turkey (13,266,265), Germany (13,154,553), Italy (12,323,398), Spain (10,778,607), Argentina (8,799,858), Iran (6,894,110), the Netherlands (6,052,374), Colombia (6,031,130), Poland (5,460,552) and Mexico (5,344,840), the CSSE figures showed.

The nations with a death toll of over 100,000 are Russia (336,299), Mexico (314,128), Peru (208,622), the UK (160,784), Italy (152,282), Indonesia (145,622), Colombia (137,586), France (137,143), Iran (134,420), Argentina (124,924), Germany (120,784), Ukraine (110,698) and Poland (109,205).
