Ayushman Bharat yojana fails to reach the poor in need of medical help.

The public hospitals not actively involved while late payments to private hospitals has turned the enthusiasm down for the scheme.

Most of the BJP ruled states with UP on the top show poor figures of the scheme. Some district hospitals in UP have not done even one treatment under the scheme since long.

A laggard Uttar Pradesh has been advised “to raise the game” in the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat Yojana.

UP has been directed to triple the number of daily treatments under the scheme at present in the most populous state of the country.

The penetration of the medical insurance scheme in the state is poor as most of the public hospitals are over burdened and unable to handle the patient pressure.

UP is reporting over a Crore beneficiary families while the actual people receiving the scheme benefit is not even 1000.

Ayushman yojana shows a number of loopholes making it difficult for the poor in need to avail the treatment.

Out of claims worth Rs 7,602 Cr raised country-wide under the scheme till last year, large amount failed to be sanctioned.

Only 2,312 hospitals in UP are empaneled under the Ayushman Bharat scheme so far including 842 public hospitals and 1,470 private hospitals.

About 2,628 Health and Wellness Centres are operational in UP under the scheme so far.

Patients in need are not only unable to avail treatment under Ayushman Bharat yojana but are also deprived of treatment under Rashtriya Arogya Niti.

National Human Rights Commission has sought a report from the Health Ministry about poor patients not able to avail treatment under the Rashtriya Arogya Nidhi (RAN) if they are Ayushman Bharat beneficiaries.

According to NHRC, it has received complaints stating patients holding BPL cards are not getting RAN benefits if they availed benefits of AB-PMJAY.

AIIMS and National Health Authority (NHA) had cited cases wherein Ayushman Bharat beneficiaries could not avail treatment for blood cancer and chronic liver diseases as these are not covered under the flagship health insurance scheme.

The Commission has asked the ministry to take appropriate action and sent an action-taken report to it within a month.
