Hotstar, owned by Walt Disney India blocked a “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver” episode in India, reported by Bloomberg. Famous comedian John Oliver, popular for his satirical comments on the news on his show had roasted Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the US President Trump during the latter’s recent visit to India.
John Oliver is a British- American comedian famous for his Emmy-winning late-night talk and news satire television programme worldwide.

The comedian took a dig at President Donald Trump’s visit to India while targeting prime minister Narendra Modi’s ideology to turn the world largest democratic and secular country into the Hindu nation.
Now, subscribers can only find older episodes of “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver”, and not the episode aired on February 25. The show is aired on every Tuesday at 6 am.
Oliver said in the episode, “While Modi may have charmed Bear Grylls (the PM’s episode in Man vs Wild show), the world, and our current president, in India, he is an increasingly controversial figure because his government has pursued a steadily escalating persecution of religious minorities,". He also discussed the Gujarat riot and the controversial Citizenship Act and even showed the footage of ongoing anti-CAA protest during the episode.

While investigating the matter Bloomberg reported that the Indian government wasn’t aware of the matter, a representative for India’s Information and Broadcasting Ministry said. But the Hotstar representative didn’t reply to Bloomberg’s emails.
