Entertainment: Hum Apke Hai Koun completes 23 years in Bollywood

Bollywood blockbuster Hum Aapke hai Koun which has given a new definition to the wedding rituals of India has completed 23 years on Saturday. The film is best remembered as a family entertainer with the on-screen chemistry between Salman Khan and Madhuri Dixit at its best.

The film established Salman Khan as a bankable star, his next-door boy image won many hearts.

Earning over ₹1.35 billion worldwide, the film became the highest-grossing Bollywood film of all time. It contributed to a change in the Indian film industry, with new methods of distribution and a turn towards less violent stories. It was the first Hindi film to gross over ₹1 billion.

The film celebrates Indian wedding traditions, relationship between families and about sacrificing one’s love for family. The movie gave some hit songs like Pehla pehla pyaar hai, Didi tera dewar deewana. Lata Mangeshkar, who sang more than 10 songs in the movie, had long retired the industry. Her song Didi Tera Devar Deewana was so popular that she received the Filmfare Special Award that year.

Even after 23 years, the movie continues to enjoy a space in the world of Bollywood with the brilliant cast including late Reema Lagoo, Anupam Kher, Alok Nath, Mohnish Behl, Renuka Shahane among others.

Bollywood celebrates birthday of Kajol and Genelia

August 5 marks the birth anniversary of two beautiful actresses of Bollywood, versatile Kajol and sweet Genelia.

After making her acting debut in the 1992 romance Bekhudi, Kajol had her first commercial success with the 1993 thriller Baazigar. Kajol is known for her films like Kuch Kuch hota hai, Dilwale Dulhaniya le Jayenge. Her co-stsar Dhanush wished the actress on Twitter.

Riteish Deshmukh, Actor and husband of Genelia Deshmukh took to twitter and praised his wife calling her an incredible woman.

Varun’s October to release in June

Filmmaker Shoojit Sircar’s next directorial venture October featuring Varun Dhawan in the lead role will hit the theatres on June 1, next year. A Rising Sun Films production, the film will go on floors this September. It will be shot in Delhi.

The slice-of-life love story is written by Sircar’s frequent collaborator Juhi Chaturvedi.

“It is a genre that I have always wanted to delve in. While love and romance have been entwined with Indian cinema, there is abundance in that emotion that everyone can have their own interpretations of. Juhi and I have always tried to create stories from the reflections of real life moments that we see around us. October is another effort to explore those moments out of simple situations of life,” said Shoojit.

The leading lady of the film is yet to be finalised.
