After days of controversy and an angry petition on Change.org, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has asked Sony Entertainment Channel to pull the plug on its serial Pehradar Piya ki in which a ten-year-old boy is shown marrying an 18 years old girl.
It is perhaps for the first time in the history of Indian television, that I&B Ministry has asked a channel to pull off a programme. In an official statement the channel said, “Effective 28th August 2017, we are pulling off our programme, Pehredaar Piya Ki, from television. While we understand that the decision to end this serial will be disappointing to those whose creative energies are vested in it, namely, its crew and cast, we (as a channel) are convinced that we will be better served by focusing instead on developing viewer interest in our upcoming, new shows. We are grateful to all the artists, producers and fans of our shows and request you to graciously support the viewership of our newer ventures.”

The film’s title Newton is a little confusing. It seems that the film is about the scientist Sir Isaac Newton. But the film’s trailer released on Tuesday conveys that the film is a black political comedy. Rajkummar Rao’s character is that of a simple man whose life is based on a simple principle “If you don’t change nothing, nothing will change.” Rajkummar Rao as Newton is a man of principles who does not bend to the situations and only follows what is right.

The trailer starts with the protagonist’s search for a bride but his bride to be turns out to be just 16 years old girl. His life however changes when he is sent in a Naxalite area on election duty. Gradually, the trailer unfolds how voting is an important right and how people do not come out to vote out of sheer fear.
The trailer has been received very well on the social media and conveys that the film is going to be a strong socio political statement. Newton is slated to release on September 22.
