Entertainment: Babumoshai gets 48 cuts from CBFC despite ‘A’ certificate

Despite getting an ‘A’ certificate, the upcoming film of Nawazuddin Siddiqui Babumoshai Bandookbaaz has been given 48 cuts by the censor board. According to Nawaz, the abusive words in the movie are justified to make the characters look authentic.

“Sometimes abuses are added to give weight to the character and add a local flavour. The more local the film is, the more global it will be. If you washout films like this, then our outcome on the international platform will be zero,” he said.

The movie’s producer Kiran Shroff says the CBFC members argued that the cuts are needed as even children watch films that are given ‘A’ certification.

Directed by Kushan Nandy Babumoshai is a quirky story about a small-time contract killer. It has run into trouble with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), which has raised objections to the cuss words and some scenes in the film.

“When conditions (referring to CBFC rules) are such that you are scared to even improvise and say something wrong, that’s a scary situation to be in,” said Nawazuddin.

The makers of Babumoshai Bandookbaaz are disappointed with the 48 cuts given by the CBFC and are even planning to approach the Tribunal.

Tumi Bahir Theke: A film on Bangladesh Liberation War to release in Dec

A feature film based on the unknown history of the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War Tumi Bahir Theke, is set to have a worldwide release in December this year.

The movie directed by Sajal Ahmed and Ujjal Chakraborty, will be simultaneously released in London, Paris, Rome, Berlin, Stockholm, New York, Los Angeles and Montreal, among others.

The political thriller is a tribute to the freedom fighters who fought for Bangladesh’s liberation.

“The decision to showcase the film in the aforementioned cities is due to the influence the Bengali community wields in those regions,” Chakraborty said.

Talking about the story line, Chakraborty said “the movie captured the atmosphere in the year 1971, when some people resided outside Bangladesh - in cities like Kolkata, London and New York.” The film is expected to be released on December 16, which is observed as ‘Victory Day’in Bangladesh.

Their stardom isn’t affected: Aamir on Salman and SRK

Superstar Aamir Khan says both Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan are huge stars and their stardom should not be questioned just because their recent films have not been successful.

Salman’s fantastic run at the box office came to an abrupt halt when his last movie, Tubelight, bombed, while Shah Rukh, too, has been struggling to achieve big box office figures with his films.

On whether he is the most bankable superstar among the three Khans, Aamir says, “You have to understand that creative work is very unpredictable. All of us try our best. Sometimes we succeed, sometimes we don’t. I don't think anyone’s stardom is affected by one or two films. Salman and Shah Rukh are both huge stars, they are megastars. I am a fan of their work. I don’t really compare like this. Each one is unique and different.”

The 52-year-old actor says he is very content in the space he is in and isn’t trying to achieve any super stardom.

“I have a very warm relationship with my audience and I think that’s something I’ve built over the years, something I cherish a lot. I am also very grateful about it. How many of us get the good fortune to do work which they enjoy?”

The actor has recently launched the trailer of his upcoming home production Secret Superstar, scheduled to release this Diwali.
