Corona crisis: Varun Dhawan provides financial help to 200 Bollywood dancers

The corona crisis and the enforced lockdown had hit the film industry especially daily wage workers and dancers very badly. Many attempts were made to help these dancers during these difficult times. While many daily wage workers received the help from Bollywood celebrities, Bollywood dancers were deprived of any monetary or ration help.

These dancers even made a collective video, appealing producers and stars to help them as without these dancers, Bollywood’s famous songs and dances cannot happen. The video had an impact and some celebrities came forward to help the dancers. Ace choreographers Remo D’Souza and Bosco Martis immediately came forward to help the struggling background dancers with money and ration.

Actor Siddharth Malhotra provided financial support to as many as 200 dancers. Shahid Kapoor also came forward to support the dancers. Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions and donation platform Give India also provided help to the needy dancers.

And now Varun Dhawan who has done dance films like ABCD, ABCD2 and Street Dancer 3D has come out to help dancers. The actor has transferred money into the accounts of 200 dancers and will continue to help till the corona crisis is over.

Raj Surani who is a well-known coordinator in the film industry informs that “Varun Dhawan has come out and helped the needy dancers. He has worked with a lot of them in three dance films. He is very concerned about the dancers about how they are managing their livelihood. He has promised to help them and try and address their problems.”

Surani added “There are many dancers who continue to face issues with their landlords over rent. There are others who have ailing parents and there are seniors who need medicine from time to time. We are thankful to all those who are helping the dancers. Though shooting has begun but dancers will have wait for really long time before they go back on sets.”

Dancers who come from all parts of India to Mumbai to make their dreams come true were left with no jobs at all. Some of them were doing odd jobs of selling vegetables or cooked food or as a maid when the dance work had dried up. The lockdown meant that they couldn’t do anything. Increasing bills and rents meant a dark future looming large over their heads with no source of income. This timely help from the celebrities provides some relief for them.
