Rahul Gandhi seeks probe into NEET data leak 

Demanding an enquiry into the massive breach of candidate data of those who had written the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET), Congress president Rahul Gandhi wrote to CBSE Chairperson Anita Karwal. He called for immediate safeguards to be put in place to avert further leaks of such sensitive data.

Gandhi pointed to media reports which stated that a website had access to records of 250,000 students along with their gender, roll numbers, rank in the exam as well as their mobile numbers. According to a Newsminute report, the website had listed data of candidates from Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Bihar and Jharkhand.

In the letter, Rahul Gandhi stated that he was shocked by the large scale theft of personal data that has compromised the privacy of candidates across the country

In a massive breach of data, the phone numbers, email IDs and addresses of thousands of applicants who appeared for NEET in 2018 was reportedly available online for a payment of up to Rs 2 lakh.

The NEET was conducted on May 7 this year, for which over 13 lakh candidates appeared across the country. The exam for admission to medical and dental colleges across the country was conducted by the CBSE.
