The Congress attacked the BJP government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday for the worsening situation in Jammu and Kashmir. Addressing the media, Congress spokesperson RPN Singh said that neither farmers, nor soldiers were secure under the BJP government’s rule.

He said, “In the last 24 hours, there have been nearly 14 deaths in Jammu & Kashmir. Yesterday, six policemen were martyred and two civilians lost their life in a terrorist attack in Anantnag. We also lost one Army Jawan in J&K’s Naushera as Pakistan violated ceasefire again.”

Extending condolences to the families of the security personnel who made the supreme sacrifice for the nation, Singh said, “It is the kisan- the farmer-who send their children to the armed forces, but under the BJP Government, both the farmer and the soldier are not secure. Under BJP’s watch, the situation in Jammu and Kashmir has deteriorated like never before.”

Attacking Prime Minister Modi, Singh said, “While the Prime Minister was exchanging pleasantries with Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif in Astana, Pakistan-based terrorists are attacking our security forces’ bases on a daily basis. The PM tweets about Manchester, the Myanmar plane crash, London attacks, etc. but has no time to express his feelings for the policemen who sacrificed their lives for the nation.”

Questioning the Union government’s efforts to restore normalcy in Kashmir, Singh said, “Both farmers and soldiers are at the receiving end of bullets under the BJP government. Exactly 207 jawans have been martyred only in Jammu and Kashmir in the past three years. The Union Home Minister, Shri Rajnath Singh, spoke about a 'permanent solution' in Kashmir. In the present scenario, maintaining peace and restoring normalcy should be the top priority. BJP has failed the people of Jammu and Kashmir. It is high time they take responsibility for their actions and work towards bringing misguided youths away from stone pelting and militancy back into the mainstream.”

Singh asked the Union government to spell out five steps which it has undertaken to bring peace and prosperity in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. He said just a few days ago, on June 14, at least six attacks (mostly grenade attacks) took place in Jammu & Kashmir which injured 13 security personnel. Nine of them belonged to CRPF and the other four to J&K Police, he added.
