Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt Ltd on Wednesday launched ‘Sapno ki Udaan’ under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) wing. The project is a training programme for women which shall provide 100% scholarships to 20 aspirants and enable them to fly commercial aircrafts as pilots.

The biggest CSR project of the company has earmarked approximately ₹ 80 lakh per candidate for the programme. Girls from Gujarat, Haryana, Rajasthan and Karnataka have been invited to apply for the scholarship. Honda will assist them right from the selection process and to also secure a job post the completion of their training.

"The training of the candidates will begin by October after selection of the candidates. We are engaging with the flying clubs across India for their training tie-up and engaging with public and private airline players for placement support," said Harbhajan Singh, Director, (General & Corporate Affairs), HMSI here during the launch of the programme.

Although applications can be made online till August 10, the selection process will be quite rigorous. Merit and income levels of the applicants will decide the shortlist which will be followed by a written test, a medical test, psychometric tests and a technical assessment which will ultimately decide the 20 candidates.
As per a report by The Hindu Businessline, the company has a CSR budget of about ₹50 crore at the corporate level and last year it had spent about ₹45 crore. In Gujarat, the company has invested over ₹1,100 crore to set up the total installed capacity of 1.2 million units per annum.
